NOTE: Due to the relationship between the spreadsheet file you've created with Excel or Works and Web Search which formats this into html for viewing by the user, the following symbols can NOT be used inside cells on the spreadsheet.

(,) (")
and the number ZERO (0) if used as the first number in a zip code etc.

This should have no effect on your search engine except in the case of sites which return a result in $$$. This is not that big an issue as you can see by using the following demo. Real Estate Search Engine Demo

Should you need these characters in your search results page, we've collected a few html tags which can be used to generate the appropriate characters.

Sample Database

Copy the following file from your browser to a directory on your hard drive.
File Name= Test.txt (File/Save as)
This file is a sample row from the Web Search spreadsheet/database. Simply open this file with a spreadsheet program such as Excel, Lotus, or Works.

The following search form will return results based on the items listed in the test.txt Excel File.
Adding or deleting items to this spreadsheet file is all there is to maintaining a database for the Web Search Software.

What about using my existing database with Web Search?

Check your existing software as many programs will save existing database files to "text tab-delimited" format.
Then it's just a simple matter of deciding which columns to keep as the Web Search spreadsheet file.

There are also programs available which will convert many different formats of database files to that used by Web Search.
We haven't had a chance to evaluate the following product but we suggest you check the following site as it appears this would be an ideal solution for converting many database formats to
text tab-limited format for use with Web Search. http://www.datajunction.com

Check back often as we'll get an evaluation copy and let you know the results.
